Villa Negrotto Cambiaso

Arenzano boasts one of the most beautiful historical gardens in Liguria overlooking the sea, the Park of Villa Negrotto Cambiaso. Walking in the greenery, the eye is immediately caught by the Art Nouveau greenhouse, which still retains part of its original splendour, by the peacocks of the park with their blue breeding plumage and by the majestic trees. You can enter the park through three access: the west entrance, from Piazza Rodocanachi, that goes through the medieval village. The other two entrances, to the east on Piazza Allende and to the north on Via Sauli Pallavicino, make way in two straight paths both leading to the villa.
The greenhouse
The liberty greenhouse, made of iron and glass unique of its kind, is a suggestive location, suitable for photo shoots, private events, exhibitions, yard sales. It is a large space, with an unmistakable style, covering an area of about 350 square meters, preserving intact its original structure.

Botanical itinerary
The botanical value is added to the architectural and compositional value of the park, thanks to the presence of uncommon or even rare species in Liguria: the bald cypress, the erytrina cristagalli, the cephalotaxis, the cryptomeria in the elegans variety, the giant thuja. Furthermore, several species, because of their age, have reached impressive dimensions. Among these the pines, plane trees, magnolias, camphors, sofora, palms, cork oaks, cypresses and the great cedar of Lebanon, a real green monument.
Background
1558 Marquis Tobia Pallavicino bought the vast possession, where he built a villa around a pre-existing tower. The villa was an urban summer residence and a centre of agricultural production. The manor house was built later. 1880 Marquise Luisa Sauli Pallavicino decided to renovate the villa and to create a large and elegant garden commissioning it to the architect Luigi Rovelli, who had already designed the villa and the garden for the Count Eugenio Figoli des Geneys. 1931 Marquise Matilde Negrotto Cambiaso enriched the garden with the construction of a new greenhouse, designed by architect Lamberto Cusani, who drawn inspiration from French and English 19th century examples of iron and glass greenhouses. 1980 It became the seat of the Municipality of Arenzano. 2006 The villa underwent thorough a conservative restoration.
